Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you sign in with GitHub, we receive your public profile information including your name, email address, avatar, and GitHub username. This information is used to create and manage your GitChat account.

Repository Data

When you interact with repositories through GitChat, we access repository data (commits, branches, files, issues, pull requests) via the GitHub API using your OAuth token. This data is fetched on-demand and is not stored on our servers beyond the current session.

Chat History

Your chat conversations are stored in our database to provide continuity across sessions. Chat messages may contain references to your repositories, code, and GitHub activity.

Third-Party Tokens

When you connect third-party services (e.g., Vercel), we store the OAuth access token securely in our database. These tokens are used solely to perform actions you request through the chat interface.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Authentication: To verify your identity and provide access to your repositories.
  • Service functionality: To execute GitHub and third-party API operations on your behalf.
  • AI processing: Your messages are sent to AI model providers (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google) to generate responses. We do not send your access tokens or credentials to AI providers.
  • Chat persistence: To save your conversation history so you can return to previous chats.

3. Data Storage and Security

  • Account data and chat history are stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Neon.
  • Access tokens are stored encrypted in the database.
  • All connections use HTTPS/TLS encryption.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Third-Party Services

GitChat integrates with the following third-party services:

  • GitHub: For authentication and repository access. Subject to GitHub's Privacy Statement.
  • Vercel: For deployment management (optional). Subject to Vercel's Privacy Policy.
  • AI Providers: Your chat messages (not tokens) are processed by AI model providers to generate responses. Each provider has its own data handling policies.

5. Data Retention

  • Account data: Retained as long as your account is active.
  • Chat history: Retained until you delete individual chats or your account.
  • Access tokens: Retained until you disconnect the integration or delete your account.
  • Repository data: Not stored; fetched on-demand from GitHub's API.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access: View your stored data through the application.
  • Delete: Remove your chat history, disconnect integrations, or delete your account.
  • Revoke access: Disconnect GitHub or third-party integrations at any time through Settings or directly from the provider's dashboard.
  • Export: Export your chat history via the export feature.

7. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics cookies.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
